Artist BIBI C on display at Astoria Antwerp Hotel

Silvia has been working with us at the Astoria Hotel Antwerp for almost one year now. She is always working during the weekend, taking care of the breakfast every Saturday and Sunday morning. During the week she sometimes helps in Housekeeping if somebody is on holiday or has called in sick. She is friendly with colleagues and of course also with all our guests but she is never talking so much about herself.

Last month, what a big surprise, she asked a day off during the weekend on 28 August 2011. Of course everybody deserves a free weekend so nobody asked her why. Only last week she told everybody that she would have a stand in the old city, together with other artists showing their paintings and drawings. This is a yearly event in Antwerp that brings a lot of tourists who liking art.

Some colleagues and I went to visit her on the Museum of Fine Arts where we found Silvia and others struggling with the real Belgian weather, wind and rain… To be honest I did go because I wanted to be polite and be out a little on a Sunday afternoon. To my big surprise I was very happy to see Silvia’s paintings. I didn’t expect such nice pieces of art!

It wasn’t difficult to take a quick decision and asked her if she wants to display her paintings in Astoria’s lobby and restaurant. From now on everybody is welcome to enjoy seeing her work! No doubt about it, we have a real artist in our team!

To see more of her works, the album BIBI C. (her artist name) is on Astoria Hotel’s Facebook page.

Lambert Montmartre Antwerpen

Lambertmontmartre, Antwerp

Lambertmontmartre is a charming and picturesque market place in Antwerp. This Sunday 28/08 you can smell the artistic atmosphere like in Paris. Each year there are new things to discover in Antwerp. Painters, graphic artists and photographers from all over the world show their paintings to the public. This event is worth a visit if you enjoy the artistic world. The painters market welcomes every talented painter on the Paintersmarket! You can find the Lambertmontmartre next to the Museaum of fine arts, next to the fountains of Christina Iglesias and the sculptures of Rodin. If you have seen the Montmarte in Paris you will for sure like this too!

Our service week has started!  It’s time to say “THANK YOU” to all our staff! Without our staff we wouldn’t be able to welcome guests and give service. Most probably without our staff the Astoria Hotelwould be an empty building full of cobwebs! Without our staff we wouldn’t be a fantastic team either.

Of course everybody on earth goes to work for the same reason; to pay the bills at the end of each month, isn’t it? Most of the people do this because they have to…  But my team likes to work and gives their best each day again and again and just that deserves a “THANK YOU”

Little thank you gifts were given (from Ralph Lauren, Estée Lauder and Clinic) and I enjoyed a lot their faces being surprised and happy with their presents!

We had a nice lunch together that was different from other days. Usually we all eat when there is time to eat; alone or 2 by 2, hardly all together as there is no time for that. But this week it is different! All lunches will be shared with all staff working that day and there are more little surprises to come over the next few days!

I can only say that I am the happiest manager and I am very proud to work with such a team! THANK YOU!

General Manager

The City Planner website is a marvellous tool for every tourist visiting Antwerp for the first time. Tell this unique website the categories of attractions you most enjoy visiting and it will create a personalised itinerary to help you explore the attractions of Antwerp that you are most likely to enjoy. Rate categories like museums, themes, bus and boat tours, churches, shopping, galleries, streets and squares. Tell it how long you have to spend and select the Astoria hotel Antwerp as your starting point to receive your personal planner.

It won’t suggest you visit a park if you have no interest in nature and will plan the most efficient route between each attraction so you can fit everything in. The website planner outlines the directions and also includes a timetable to help plan your whole day effectively to ensure you get through all the activities you want and skip any you were less looking forward to!

During your stay connect to the internet and the city planner with the Astoria Hotels free Wi-Fi. I think the Antwerp city planner is a fantastic site and very informative but it can lack the human touch and insider information only locals can know. All us here love talking to our guests, sharing our knowledge and hearing your experiences so if you’ve any questions or would like any suggestions please don’t hesitate to ask us at reception.
